MTB Suspension Service in Encinitas — Forks, Shocks, and Everything in Between

When was the last time your fork or rear shock had any love? If your answer is "I don't remember" or "uh, never," you're not alone — and you're due. Suspension is the easiest performance upgrade you'll ever get, and it doesn't come from buying something new. It comes from servicing what you already own.

At RIDE Cyclery, suspension is one of the things we do best.

Meet our suspension wizard — Efren

Efren — RIDE Cyclery suspension specialistEfren is our in-house suspension specialist, and the man genuinely loves this work. Rebuilding forks,  shock overhauls — it's his thing. Drop your bike off with Efren and you're handing it to someone who actually enjoys the process and takes the time to do it right.

The only thing we're not doing in-house is any damper rebuild that requires nitrogen refill.  We do not have a nitrogen tank for that,  but we can absolutely facilitate it with our local partner.

We service the brands you're running:

    • RockShox — Pike, Lyrik, ZEB, SID, Yari, Recon; Super Deluxe, Deluxe, Vivid, Monarch
    • Fox — 32, 34, 36, 38, 40; Float DPS, DHX, Float X, X2
    • Marzocchi, Manitou, DVO, EXT, and more on request

The two service levels — and how to know which you need

Lower-leg service (a.k.a. "50-hour" or seal kit refresh)

If you've put roughly 40 to 50 hours of ride time on your fork since the last service, it's time for a lower-leg. This is the basic maintenance that keeps your fork buttery and your seals from drying out and getting sticky. We:

    • Drop the lowers
    • Clean and inspect bushings
    • Replace foam rings and wiper seals
    • Refresh lower-leg lubricant
    • Re-torque to spec and test

Same idea on the rear — air can and seal refresh on your rear shock to keep it sliding smooth.

Turnaround: Usually 48 hours depending on shop volume and parts. Walk-ins welcome to drop off.

Full rebuild (a.k.a. "200-hour" or annual service)

If you're past 100–200 hours or it's been a full year, your damper oil is contaminated, your air spring needs new seals, and the whole unit deserves a proper rebuild. We:

    • Fully disassemble the fork or shock
    • Replace all dynamic seals (air spring, damper, lower-leg)
    • Flush and refill with fresh, manufacturer-spec oils
    • Inspect bushings, stanchions, and internals for wear
    • Reassemble, set sag, and confirm proper performance

This is the service that turns a tired, harsh fork back into a brand-new feeling fork. If you've never had it done, the first ride afterward is borderline emotional.

"But my fork still feels fine"

    Two things to know:

    1. Suspension degrades gradually, so by the time you notice something is off, you've usually been riding on under-performing suspension for months.
    2. Worn seals leak air and oil. Worn bushings score your stanchions. Both turn cheap maintenance into expensive repairs.

A $100–$150 lower-leg today is what keeps you out of a $400–$700 fork replacement next year.

North County rides this stuff to death

Whether you're hitting Hodges, Daley Ranch, Calavera, Elfin Forest, Black Mountain, Noble Canyon, or any of the local laps, dust, sand, salt air, and sun all conspire to dry out and contaminate your suspension faster than the calendar suggests. If you ride here, you need to service more often than the factory chart says.

Drop it off, ride it home

Bring the bike in, talk to Efren about what you've been feeling, and we'll get it back to you faster than you think.

Yes, We Service Walkers — Adult Walker Brake Adjustments in Encinitas

This one might surprise you, but it shouldn't.

RIDE Cyclery has been part of the Encinitas community since 2010 — and the shop on this corner has served Encinitas since 2001. In those years, neighbors of every kind have walked through our door asking for help — and a service request that has become surprisingly common is the adult walker with hand brakes, also known as a rollator.

The hand brakes on a modern rollator work on the exact same principles as the brakes on a bicycle. Cable, lever, pad, friction. When they get out of adjustment — when the lever pulls too far, when the brake drags, when the parking brake won't catch — that's a bike shop problem. And we're a bike shop.

    Why we do it

Mobility devices are about independence. When the brakes on your walker don't work properly, that independence is at risk — either because you can't trust the brake to hold, or because a dragging brake makes the walker harder to push.

A lot of folks don't realize that the company they bought the walker from doesn't service them. Returning it is a hassle. Big-box stores don't have a mechanic. We do.

So we just say yes. It's not strictly bicycles — but it's brakes, cables, and adjustments, and that's our wheelhouse.

    What we'll do

When you bring your walker or rollator in, our service team will:

    • Inspect both hand brakes (left and right)
    • Adjust cable tension so the lever actuates smoothly
    • Check pad wear and clean braking surfaces
    • Test the parking brake / locking function
    • Replace cables, housings, or pads if they're worn out (parts cost is minimal)
    • Make sure everything is symmetric and safe before it leaves the shop

Most adjustments take 10 to 20 minutes. If parts are needed, we'll quote you on the spot.

    Pricing

We don't have a set fee for walker service — every walker is a little different and we don't always know what we're getting into until we have it on the bench. We charge by the hour, and most jobs are quick; we're genuinely happy to help. Walk in or call ahead and we'll take care of it.

    Who this is for

    • An older parent or family member whose rollator brakes feel "off"
    • A caregiver who has noticed the walker dragging or the parking brake slipping
    • Anyone in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Leucadia, or the surrounding area who'd rather walk into a local shop than ship a walker back to a distant warehouse

We service everything with wheels and brakes

Bikes are the heart of what we do. But the bigger truth is: we're a service shop, and we like fixing things. If you're not sure whether we can help with something, just ask. Worst case, we point you in the right direction. Best case, you walk out with a problem solved.

Magnum eBike Owners in Encinitas — We Service Your Bike

If you own a Magnum eBike and live in Encinitas, Carlsbad, or anywhere in North County, you may have noticed that Magnum's local storefront is no longer open. Magnum is a direct-to-consumer brand, and like a lot of D2C eBike companies, the customer experience after the sale can get thin — especially when something needs service.

    That's where we come in.

RIDE Cyclery services every Magnum model

We've already had several Magnum riders walk through our doors looking for help, and we've been able to take care of them on the spot. Whether it's a Peak T5, Metro+, Cruiser, Pathfinder, Ranger, or one of the older Ui5 / Ui6 builds, our shop is set up to handle Magnum service work.

Common issues we see on Magnum bikes:

    • Battery diagnostics and replacement options
    • Controller and display troubleshooting
    • Motor cut-outs, error codes, and wiring issues
    • Brake bleeds and pad replacement (most Magnums run hydraulic disc systems)
    • Drivetrain wear — chains, cassettes, shifting adjustment
    • Tubeless conversions, flat repair, tire upgrades
    • Full safety inspections and tune-ups

Meet our Magnum specialist — Josh

Our expert eBike technician, Josh, has deep, hands-on knowledge of Magnum's electrical systems. He understands how their motors, controllers, batteries, and displays talk to each other — which matters, because diagnosing an eBike issue without that knowledge usually means guessing and replacing expensive parts you didn't need to replace.

When you bring your Magnum in, Josh is going to test, diagnose, and tell you exactly what's going to the best of his abilities within the limitations of the Magnum electrical system.

What you'll get when you bring your Magnum to RIDE

    • A clear, honest diagnosis before any work is approved
    • Up-front pricing.
    • Parts sourced through our vendor network, with realistic timelines (some Magnum-specific parts are slower to source now that the D2C presence has thinned out, but we'll be straight with you about lead times)
    • A full inspection, even when you bring it in for one specific issue, so we can flag anything else before it leaves you stranded

We welcome every brand — Magnum included

RIDE Cyclery has been Encinitas's service-first bike shop for 25 years. We work on every brand: Specialized, Trek, Giant, Cannondale, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Ibis, Aventon, Lectric, Rad, Super73, Magnum, and dozens more. If it has two wheels (and even a few that don't — more on that another time), we're happy to take a look.

If you're a Magnum owner and you've been wondering where to go now that the storefront is gone, the answer is right here on Coast Highway 101.
